The first SBOOK prototype is in the making

We are building a computer for every kid.

SmileyTech is a startup from Skopje, Macedonia. SmileyOS, our operating system, is made for kids and simple enough for anyone, and so small that a €20 used PC or a Raspberry Pi runs it from a USB stick or a microSD card. The stick and the card come first, in 2027, and what they earn builds our own cheap computers around SmileyOS: SBOOK and SBOX, then SBOOK Go.

What we are building

A computer every family can afford.

A new computer costs €500 to €1,000, and memory chips keep getting more expensive. We go the other way: a system small enough for the computers people already have, and cheap computers of our own built around it, aiming for €200 to €300.

  • €20An old computer is enoughWith SmileyOS, a computer that is 10 or 20 years old feels like it was bought yesterday. It starts from a USB stick on a PC or a microSD card on a Raspberry Pi, and 256 MB of memory is enough.
  • €200–300Our own computersSBOOK, our laptop built around SmileyOS, aims for €200 to €300. Its prototype is in the making; it goes into production with SBOX once the stick and the card have earned enough.
  • Parents decideControlled internet and AISmileyOS works offline. The internet and the AI helper are on only when a parent or a teacher allows it.

Where we shine

Big companies go bigger. We go the other way.

Every new Windows and macOS needs more memory, more space and a newer, more expensive computer. Linux is free, but Ubuntu 26.04 now asks for more memory than Windows 11. SmileyOS goes the other way: small, simple and quick, with cheap computers built around it.

A map, not to scale. Requirements: Microsoft (Windows 11), Canonical (Ubuntu 26.04); Mac price: Apple Germany, August 2026.
  • Updates with a way back: the previous version always starts if a new one does not
  • About 20 MB and 256 MB of memory, where Windows 11 asks for 64 GB and 4 GB
  • One modern look, dark or light, with accent colors and 22 wallpapers, for the desktop, the 20 built-in apps and the apps from our own App Store
  • A €20 used PC or a Raspberry Pi is enough, and our computers aim for €200 to €300
  • Every app included for free: documents and slides like Word and PowerPoint, design like Illustrator, music like FL Studio, with no subscriptions
See where we shine

Everything a full system has. All of it is ours.

  • Our own App Store
  • Our own App SDK
  • Updates with a way back
  • Our own web browser
  • Our own programming language
  • A game studio
  • 3D games of its own
  • Classroom without a server
  • Parental controls
  • An AI helper with limits
  • Simple mode
  • Make it yours
  • Three languages
  • PCs and Raspberry Pi
  • No ads, no tracking
Maybe I aim too high when I put SmileyOS next to Apple, Microsoft and Linux. But the numbers and the facts stand their ground. Behind Windows and macOS stand some of the biggest companies in the world. Behind SmileyOS stands one dreamer. And when you dream, only the sky is the limit.

The plan

One step pays for the next.

First SmileyOS on a USB stick and a microSD card, in stores in 2027. What it earns puts SBOOK and SBOX into production, then SBOOK Go. We need all the support we can get.

  1. 2025 to 2026

    A working system

From the first line of code in 2025, one founder on nights and weekends, to a desktop, 20 built-in apps and games, a classroom and three languages on real computers.

  2. Now to 2027

Phase 1: SmileyOS on a stick and a card

    • SmileyOS in stores in 2027, on a USB stick for old PCs and a microSD card for the Raspberry Pi
    • Prototypes of SBOOK and SBOX
    • SmileyTech registered as a company
    • Learning books and first pilots with families and schools
  3. After Phase 1

Phase 2: SBOOK and SBOX in production

What the stick and the card earn, together with grants, investors and supporters, puts our laptop and our TV computer into production.

  4. After Phase 2

    Phase 3: SBOOK Go

Our lightest laptop, made to be carried every day.

  5. The dream

    Into schools, and into prisons

SmileyOS in every primary school in Macedonia, and then further. And in prisons: a safe, controlled computer where people can learn skills for a new start.

The founder

Built by one founder, so far.

Nikola Gjorgiev has built software since 2014. He started in mobile games, then made apps for mobile, web and desktop and led a team. He designed and wrote SmileyOS from the first line: the system, the language, the apps and the games.
