SmileyOS · Open source
The open-source parts of SmileyOS.
SmileyOS is our own operating system and its code is closed. It is built with open-source parts, and the SmileyOS USB stick starts with GNU GRUB. Here are their licenses and the source code we provide.
GNU GRUB
Source code of GRUB on the SmileyOS USB stick.
GRUB is the small program that starts SmileyOS on a PC. It is free software under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. It is a separate program: the GPL covers GRUB, not SmileyOS.

Our offer
For at least three years from the day you got your SmileyOS USB stick, and for as long as we support it, anyone who has a SmileyOS USB stick can download the complete source code of its GRUB here, free of charge, or ask us for it on a physical medium for no more than the cost of making and sending it.

Open-source parts and their licenses.
SmileyOS uses open-source libraries under the MIT, Apache 2.0, BSD, ISC, Zlib and 0BSD licenses, the DejaVu fonts, the Lucide icons, the flag-icons country flags and Natural Earth map data. The full list with every license text is also inside SmileyOS: Settings > About > Open-source licenses.
